Job Description & Qualifications:

Job Summary

Responsible for product quality lifecycle including pre-qualifying new supplier/factory products, benchmark and comparison product testing, coordination with third party service providers to facilitate pre-purchase testing (PPT), pre-shipment inspections(PSI), monitoring product quality defects, CAPAs, etc. Create robust solutions to enhance customer experience with products throughout the value stream.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Reviews and determines critical characteristics and process specifications for various products to include product definition, project scoping and risk assessment.

  • Serves as the technical point of contact for material-related quality issues and drives quality information and improvement to the business.

  • Provides development, planning, implementation and/or oversight of quality systems. Utilizes primary methods of control and improvement vehicles including SPC, Six-Sigma, Product Improvement Teams and CAPA.

  • Performs competitor product benchmarking and collaborates with merchandising category team to define product performance metrics and test methods.

  • Collaborates and communicates with suppliers on non-conforming product, new product development and quality system planning.

  • Develops and executes physical tests to validate packaging and shipping methods.

  • Gathers and analyzes data to determine if existing processes and equipment have statistical process capability with respect to engineering standards. Maintains KPI dashboards of quality metrics.

  • Identifies, investigates, and qualifies new technology space for product category.

Nature and Scope

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.

  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.

  • May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.

Work Environment

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • No travel required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be eighteen years of age

  • Must pass the Drug Test

  • Must pass the Background Check

  • Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas.

  • 5-7 years quality and technical supplier quality experience

  • Bachelor’s science degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related discipline

  • CQE, Six Sigma Greenbelt or technical certification preferred

  • 3+ years’ experience in a distribution or operations environment preferred
