Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Responsible for leading all data-related scope-to-implementation activities for process/technology projects which enhance data management, institutionalize data governance, and/or improve the fitness for use of enterprise data.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Leads the cross-functional team during project execution, providing appropriate direction and support. Coordinates with IT project managers to keep projects focused on remedying business issues. Ensures adherence to budgets and timelines.

  • Partners with Data Governance, Data Management, IT and all data consumer groups, to identify and prioritize opportunities to improve processes and technologies/tools which drive 'fitness for use' of enterprise data solutions. Works closely with functional user groups to identify sustainable process changes, tools and/or system enhancements which address underlying root cause issues.

  • Develops team consensus around project objectives, scope and approach, and documents in a project charter. Coordinates with all stakeholders to develop a business case for obtaining project funding. Leverages industry/business best practices and benchmarks, as appropriate.

  • Verifies all Path-to-Value implementation activities are properly sequenced and coordinated to maximize impact, including technical enhancements, process improvements, associate training, data remediation, etc.

  • Provides periodic project status updates, within and beyond the team. Verifies successful project implementation with quantitative data as well as qualitative stakeholder feedback.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert on existing tools. Assesses current usage of tools, and identifies process improvements and ways to use the data tools more efficiently to meet business needs.

  • Provides expertise on industry technical trends in both Data Governance and Data Management.

  • Displays the highest level of critical thinking and analysis in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-departmental problems. Makes prompt, sound decisions when faced with complex and often contradictory alternatives that result in successful outcomes.

  • Operates with considerable latitude. Situations may have little or no precedent requiring original or new concepts or approaches without guidance from others. Reaches decisions under conditions of uncertainty.

  • Develops or engages/directs others in developing innovative solutions to important, highly complex strategic and operating problems; cross-departmental considerations are often present.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 8+ years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 5+ years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.

  • Experience leading or supporting successful mid- to large-sized process improvement projects

  • Six Sigma / Lean certification or similar demonstrated application and skills preferred

  • Experience in retail, merchandising, or ecommerce preferred
