Job Summary

Responsible for providing financial and strategic analysis on a wide variety of critical enterprise-level initiatives. Contribute to the financial well-being of the enterprise through direction and application of financial tools and analysis.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Establishes meaningful partnerships with HD Supply’s business units. Proactively identifies operational issues, communicates effectively with key internal stakeholders, and collaborates on strategic initiatives.

  • Supports Investor Relations, Strategic Business Development, Human Resources, Information Technology, Real Estate, and other corporate functions in capital allocation, management reporting, and ad hoc projects.

  • Analyzes data to assess strategic decisions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and business initiatives.

  • Executes monthly financial reports, interprets results, identifies meaningful variances and trends, summarizes and provides context to senior management, and streamlines and automates such reports.

  • Coordinates quarterly forecasts and annual strategic planning processes.

  • Stays abreast of relevant trends in North American macroeconomic indicators in Construction, Infrastructure, Multifamily, and Hospitality end-markets; in sell-side analyst expectations for HD Supply, customers, suppliers, and industry peers; and in financial markets, including interest rates, currency exchange rates, and commodity inflation rates.

  • Evaluates and recommends changes to capital structure and cash deployment policies.

  • Gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and normalizes disparate data from various internal and external sources to create comprehensive financial models. Formulates clear, relevant, and accurate analysis in a format that facilitates execution. Develops, implements, and refines processes to simplify workflows and increase productivity. Extracts content from large, unstructured data sets, and builds efficient models to query and summarize data.

Nature and Scope

  • Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems. Makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.

  • Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions. Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.

  • May oversee the completion of projects and assignments, including planning, assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, evaluating results, etc. Contributes to employees professional development but does not have hiring or firing authority.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field; certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas.

  • 3-5 years of related experience in one or more of the following subject areas:

  • Strategic Finance: Forecasts full articulating financial statements to support Board-level decision-making. Establishes meaningful partnerships with, and serves as the corporate finance liaison, for the Construction & Industrial business unit. Proactively identifies operational issues, communicates effectively with key internal stakeholders, and collaborates on strategic initiatives. Helps to design and implement complex projects, such as HD Supply's open-market share repurchase programs (based on projected operating cash flows, restricted payment capacity under HD Supply’s credit agreements and bond indentures, and revolver excess availability). Works on ad hoc strategic initiatives, as required.

  • Corporate Development: Develops valuation models for potential acquisitions, including quantifying base business performance, synergy opportunities, integration costs, and operational risks. Manages due diligence and integration activities in a highly-sensitive and confidential environment. Gathers, analyzes, synthesizes, and normalizes disparate data from various internal and external sources to create comprehensive supporting financial models. Formulates clear, relevant, and accurate analysis in a format that facilitates execution. Develops, implements, and refines processes to simplify workflows and increase productivity.

  • Investor Relations: Gains a robust understanding of the markets and competitive landscapes in which HDS operates in order to benchmark business unit performance against public company peers. Authors internal memos on peer performance and relevant end-market announcements. Prepares the Senior Leadership Team for quarterly earnings calls and investor meetings by synthesizing relevant external and company-specific data. Reviews quarterly and annual filings (press releases, earnings presentations, earnings call transcripts, 10-K/Qs). Monitors sell-side analysts’ consensus and prepares quarterly guidance ranges.

  • Treasury Management: Serves as a point of contact for lenders, trustees, bank treasury officers, and merchant services partners. Monitors liquidity, credit ratios, and minimizes interest expense using HD Supply’s $1.0 billion revolving credit facility. Maintains compliance with all credit agreement covenants and internal controls. Streamlines and automates the daily cash positioning process. Executes monthly financial reports, interprets results, identifies meaningful variances and trends, summarizes and provides context to senior management. Coordinates quarterly forecasts and provides input to the annual strategic planning process.

  • Debt Capital Markets: Creates Board-level presentations to justify each debt issuance, restructuring, and refinancing transaction based on annualized interest savings, payback period, maturity extension, or added flexibility. Crafts lender and ratings agency presentations to facilitate periodic reviews, provide business updates, demonstrate deal structure, and showcase pro forma credit metrics. Collaborates with lenders’ counsel on credit agreements, indentures, and offering memoranda. Stays abreast of key financial market indicators, including interest rates, currency exchange rates, and commodity inflation rates.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Operations, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline.

  • CFA, MBA, CPA, or comparable qualification is preferred.

  • Prior public company experience in corporate development, corporate finance, strategic marketing, or internal audit roles is preferred. Experience in investment banking, consulting, or advisory services also preferred.

  • Experience with enterprise planning systems, such as Oracle Hyperion/Essbase, IBM Cognos, Longview CPM, or SAP BPC.
