Job Description & Qualifications

Job Summary

Represent the finance group through reporting analysis and interfaces with division management to achieve desired financial performance.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzes expense performance, identifies expense variances to plan and prior. Develops and facilitates improvement plans.

  • Analyzes sales and gross margin component performance. Identifies and facilitates improvement plans for inventory turns, markdowns, shrink, and SKU balance/mix.

  • Controls payroll through hours and wage rate analysis and follow-up.

  • Evaluates market share and merchandise category penetrations, identifying markets and business category opportunities.

  • Directs divisional annual budget process. Functions as point-of-contact for budgets/planning. Provides analysis and challenges regarding improvement of G&A, margin, and headcount. Oversees the development of divisional sales, margin and expense plans. Evaluates capital investment effectiveness, (remodel/facelifts) with regard to business opportunity and competitive environment.

  • Partners with relevant departments in the evaluation, validation and impact of business initiatives.

  • Trains appropriate levels of divisional management with respect to P&Ls, statistics, payroll and expense leveraging, asset utilization and value added approach to improving return on assets.

Nature and Scope

  • Solutions require analysis and investigation.

  • Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.

  • Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
